LH Launches Suwon Dangsu Public Garden Design Contest with Citizen Participation
Five Gardens in Suwon Dangsudong Neighborhood Park No. 3
The Selected Designers Are Responsible for Garden Design and Construction
Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 11th that it will hold a design proposal contest for the specialized garden space of Suwon Dangsu Neighborhood Park No. 3 to enhance the design and landscape within urban parks.
This contest will be conducted during the urban park design phase, and the selected garden works will be reflected in the landscaping construction of the urban park. The contest targets five artist gardens within Suwon Dangsu Neighborhood Park No. 3, each with a garden size of 200㎡.
The garden concept is a "healing space in nature for climate change response," where the garden can function as an urban carbon sink. To strengthen the garden’s inherent function, plant materials must be central.
Eligibility for application includes "experts in related fields such as landscaping, gardening, horticulture, and those capable of actual garden construction according to the selected design." If selected as a winning entry, the applicant must be able to design and construct the specialized garden space. Up to two people may apply jointly, and all applicants must meet the contest participation qualifications.
LH will accept submission commitment letters until the 17th of this month and will receive proposals until the 21st of next month. The announcement of the winning works is scheduled for September. The evaluation of works will be conducted through technical capability assessment and bid price evaluation. For more detailed information regarding the contest, please refer to the LH website.
In response to the recent surge in garden demand, LH is expanding opportunities for many experts and general citizens to participate in creating gardens within urban parks developed by LH.
This measure considers the steady increase in demands from local governments holding garden expos, training citizen gardeners, and residents wishing to create and maintain gardens themselves. Since 2018, LH has been establishing public gardens involving artists and citizens in urban parks in Sejong, Pyeongtaek Godeok, and Incheon Geomdan New Town.
In June, LH and Suwon City signed an agreement to create the Suwon Dangsu Citizen Garden. The agreement includes collaboration on creating the Dangsu Citizen Garden, discovering citizen gardeners, and maintaining and managing the garden. LH is leading not only in garden creation but also in spreading a culture where local governments, experts, and citizens jointly manage gardens.
