'PGA Success Card' Kim Juhyung "Recalling the Memory of 63 Strokes"
Rocket Mortgage Classic with Lowest Score Last Year
Korea Joined by Im Sungjae, Kim Seonghyeon, Ahn Byeonghun
Top Rankers Absent, Pinaut and Homa as Winning Candidates
‘PGA star attraction’ Kim Joo-hyung cannot forget last year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic on the PGA Tour (total prize money $8.8 million). At that time, he participated as a special temporary member and swept up 1 shot eagle and 7 birdies without a single bogey in the final 4th round. He shot 9-under-par 63, tying the tournament’s lowest score record. By finishing tied for 7th place in this tournament, he effectively secured his entry into the 2022/2023 PGA Tour season, and riding the momentum, he went on to win the Wyndham Championship held shortly after, emerging as a new star.
Kim Joo-hyung aims for his second win of the season and third career victory at the ‘Promised Land’. On the 29th (local time), he will compete in the Rocket Mortgage Classic (total prize money $8.8 million) held at Detroit Golf Club (par 72, 7,370 yards) in Michigan, USA. This tournament, held after the major US Open and the high-profile Travelers Championship with a total prize money of $20 million, will see many top-ranked players absent, including world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (USA).
This season, Kim Joo-hyung has played in 20 tournaments, finishing in the top 10 five times including one victory. He is currently 28th in earnings ($4,277,417) and 18th in the FedEx Cup rankings (1,134 points), progressing steadily. However, aside from his tied 8th place finish at the US Open two weeks ago, which is his best personal major tournament result, his recent form has been somewhat disappointing. He is determined to turn the tide at this tournament where he fulfilled his dream of joining the PGA Tour.
Kim Joo-hyung is receiving high expectations as he ranked 4th in the ‘Power Rankings’ for this tournament selected by the PGA Tour website. He will play alongside last week’s Travelers Championship winner Keegan Bradley and world No. 20 Collin Morikawa (both USA) in the first and second rounds.
