Gwangju Nam-gu, Making a Strong Leap as an Industrial City
Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is emerging as an industrial city leading the Gwangju economy based on the energy new industry in the national and local industrial complexes in the Daechon area.
In particular, Gwangju Urban Corporation and Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, which play a key role in the development of industrial complexes, are rapidly advancing related tasks to create local jobs and attract companies, raising expectations and interest.
According to Nam-gu on the 16th, the Urban High-tech Industrial Complex, a national industrial complex, was designated as the core zone of the nation's first energy new industry convergence complex.
Gwangju Urban Corporation completed the development of the industrial complex at the end of last year, and the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority is making every effort to attract companies to create jobs.
Additionally, the district office is supporting investment companies by handling consulting and licensing tasks in a one-stop manner.
The Urban High-tech Industrial Complex is becoming a core hub for the energy new industry.
Currently, the Gwangju Center of the Korea Basic Science Institute, the Smart Grid Headquarters of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, and the energy small and medium enterprise Incell Co., Ltd. have moved in, and from 2024 to 2026, the Energy Industry Convergence Complex Comprehensive Support Center, the Energy Industry Knowledge Industry Center, and the R&D Cluster of Chonnam National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation will move in one after another.
Also, LS Electric and Hogreen Air Co., Ltd., which have signed sales contracts, are reviewing the timing of their move-in.
Furthermore, Nam-gu, which previously had only the old and aging Songam Industrial Complex, is being evaluated as an emerging economic city leading the Gwangju economy with the simultaneous development of two new industrial complexes.

A Nam-gu official said, "The two industrial complexes will play an important role in propelling our Nam-gu to become an economic city," adding, "We will create a vibrant economic city that raises the living standards of local residents through attracting companies and creating jobs."
