Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, has been selected as the implementing agency for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's demand-responsive metropolitan transportation service pilot project, and will operate the bus from December this year until June 2025.
The Metropolitan Call Bus operates by passengers reserving their boarding location, time, and seat through the KakaoT app before boarding.
From the citizens' perspective, making a reservation allows them to board the bus at a set time, reducing waiting time at bus stops, and since the bus stops at fewer locations, it reaches the destination much faster than using a regular metropolitan bus.
The fare is 2,800 won, the same as a metropolitan bus. Transfer discounts are also available under the metropolitan area integrated fare system.
The bus will operate between the Yurim-dong area and Gorim District in Cheoin-gu and Yangjae Station in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
Yongin City will initially operate the Metropolitan Call Bus with three vehicles: two large vans and one small van. If the pilot project is successfully established, the boarding stops will be expanded to flexibly extend the service area.
Additionally, the boarding method will be improved from advance reservations to real-time calls to better meet citizens' demands.
The Metropolitan Call Bus project is an alternative introduced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, together with Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Transport Institute, to alleviate public transportation difficulties in the metropolitan area.
Yongin City participated in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's contest for the 'Development of Practical Technology for Demand-Responsive Metropolitan Mobility Service in Large Urban Areas' and was selected as the implementing agency for the pilot project to verify the project's effectiveness. On the 14th, it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Gyeonggi Province, Suwon City, and five other cities.
