Prosecutors: "Clear Explanation Required for Grounds of Detention"
The prosecution rejected the arrest warrant requested by the police for Yang Bu-nam, the legal committee chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, who is suspected of receiving a large sum of legal fees in exchange for covering up an investigation.

View original imageThe Human Rights Protection Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Yoo Do-yoon) on the 1st requested supplementary investigation regarding the pre-arrest warrant applied for Yang by the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on charges of violating the Attorney-at-Law Act.
The prosecution judged that a clearer explanation of the criminal charges and the reasons for detention was necessary and requested the police to conduct a supplementary investigation.
Yang is suspected of receiving a large legal fee in exchange for covering up an investigation into charges of operating a gambling space from the operator of an online gambling site in Daegu around November 2020, after retiring from the Busan High Prosecutors' Office.

The police believe that out of the total legal fees amounting to 280 million won, the 99 million won given to Yang was not a normal legal fee but a bribe for covering up the investigation.
