Yongin City to Intensify Crackdown on Overdue Vehicles Starting Next Month

View original imageYongin City in Gyeonggi Province will launch a special collection campaign targeting delinquent vehicles through intensive crackdowns from June to September.
As of the end of April, Yongin City reported that there are 25,256 delinquent vehicles within its jurisdiction, with outstanding payments amounting to over 6.8 billion KRW. The city announced on the 31st that it will carry out strong on-site collection activities.
Starting in June, Yongin City will expand crackdowns to three district offices and deploy additional personnel to immediately confiscate license plates on-site upon detecting delinquent vehicles.
Additionally, on June 28, together with Gyeonggi Province, Yongin City will designate the day as "Delinquent Vehicle Intensive Crackdown Day" and conduct special enforcement operations.
According to relevant laws, vehicles with two or more unpaid automobile taxes or fines exceeding 300,000 KRW for parking violations are subject to license plate confiscation.
When a license plate is confiscated, the vehicle owner must visit the confiscation department of the city or district office indicated on the confiscation certificate and pay all outstanding amounts to retrieve the license plate. Operating a vehicle without a license plate will result in a fine of up to 3 million KRW according to related laws.

A Yongin City official stated, "We will take strong administrative measures such as forced towing and public auction against habitual delinquent vehicles with no intention to pay and 'daepo' vehicles that can be misused as tools for various crimes, striving to provide fair and transparent tax administrative services."
