The appointed smoking cessation instructors will engage in activities for more than 4 hours a day, 2 to 3 times a week for 2 years. They will perform tasks such as ▲checking compliance with facility standards in 1,072 designated non-smoking areas according to relevant regulations ▲monitoring and guiding smoking behavior in non-smoking areas ▲promoting smoking cessation in the community.
Through these instructors, Seo-gu plans to operate intensive enforcement periods in cooperation with the Health Promotion Team and other organizations, as well as conduct continuous smoking cessation guidance and crackdowns. They will also focus on managing high-complaint areas such as PC rooms and billiard halls.
Additionally, to support smokers in successfully quitting, the public health center offers systematic management, counseling, and provides necessary smoking cessation supplies through its smoking cessation clinic.
A Seo-gu official stated, “Together with the smoking cessation instructors, we will do our best to spread a culture of smoking cessation to create a better community and a better Gwangju Seo-gu.”
Meanwhile, a fine of 100,000 KRW is imposed for smoking in legally designated non-smoking public facilities, and a fine of 50,000 KRW is imposed on smokers in non-smoking areas designated by ordinance and in non-smoking areas of apartment complexes.
