Ministry of Land, Opens Cheongju's 'Hyochon~Baegun Intersection' from the 19th
On the 18th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the 3.4km section of the national road bypass from Hyochon-ri, Namil-myeon, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do to Undong-dong will be opened at 11 a.m. on the 19th.
The Hyochon~Baegun Intersection section is part of the Cheongju National Road Bypass construction project, which has been underway since 2001 to alleviate severe traffic congestion on the national roads (Routes 17, 25, and 36) passing through Cheongju city center. The construction period was 8 years and 3 months (February 2015 to May 2023), with a total project cost of 179.2 billion KRW.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport analyzed that with the opening of the Hyochon~Baegun Intersection section, the distance will be reduced by about 15% (0.6 km) and travel time by about 56% (5 minutes) compared to the existing route.

Yang Hee-gwan, Director of Road Construction at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “With this opening, traffic congestion in downtown Cheongju will be alleviated, and accessibility to Cheongju from neighboring cities and counties is expected to improve significantly. We plan to continue efforts to create a safe and convenient road environment to minimize inconvenience for road users and to support the revitalization of the local economy.”
