On the 7th, Busan City promoted the ‘2030 Busan World Expo’ and the candidate host city ‘Busan’ during the final match of the world’s top football tournament, the ‘Spanish King’s Cup (Copa del Rey).’
The final match took place on May 7th at 5 a.m. (Korean time) at the ‘Estadio de la Cartuja’ stadium located in Seville, Spain.
For this promotion, the city displayed phrases such as ‘Busan is Ready!’ and ‘Busan is good for World EXPO 2030’ on LED advertising boards at the ‘Estadio de la Cartuja’ stadium where the final was held.
The final was broadcast live to 48 countries worldwide, including South Korea, featuring football teams with many fans globally, ‘Real Madrid’ and ‘Osasuna.’ It is estimated that over 500 million people watched the match, making the promotional effect significant.
In particular, the promotional phrases were displayed 57 times (for 4 minutes and 45 seconds), imprinting the 2030 Busan World Expo and the candidate host city Busan not only on the on-site spectators but also on football fans worldwide watching the broadcast. The monetary value of this promotional effect is estimated at approximately 3 billion KRW.
The opportunity for this promotion arose as the city actively proposed the 2030 Busan World Expo promotion to companies holding advertising rights at major European stadiums.
As a result, the global metaverse company ‘3D Factory,’ which is promoting online and offline projects through a partnership with the Royal Spanish Football Federation, readily accepted the city’s promotional proposal, making this promotion possible.
The city explained that this promotion, combined with the 2030 Busan World Expo promotion held at the Hamburg Port Festival in Germany from May 5th to 7th, created a synergistic effect, excellently publicizing the 2030 Busan World Expo, the candidate host city Busan, and the passionate bid enthusiasm of Busan, South Korea, throughout Europe.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “I would like to once again thank the global company ‘3D Factory’ for their full support and assistance,” adding, “Thanks to the wholehearted interest and encouragement from such global companies, Busan, South Korea, is steadily moving closer to hosting the 2030 World Expo.”
He also stated, “I am pleased that this promotion allowed us to showcase the 2030 Busan World Expo, the candidate host city Busan, and the passionate bid enthusiasm to the world, further solidifying Busan’s determination to host the 2030 World Expo,” and added, “We will intensify our bid negotiations and promotional activities targeting member countries of the International Bureau of Expositions during the remaining period until the host city decision.”
