Teenager Wields Weapon at Elementary Student Eating Cup Noodles, Saying "Suddenly Angry"
Prosecutors: "Strict Response to 'Random Crimes'"
A teenager who suddenly became angry and wielded a weapon to injure an elementary school student eating cup noodles in an apartment complex has been brought to trial.
On the 1st, the Criminal Division 1 of the Pyeongtaek Branch of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Hee-young) announced that A (17) was arrested and indicted on charges of attempted murder. A is accused of approaching elementary school student B, who was eating cup noodles with a friend near the pilotis on the first floor of an apartment in Pyeongtaek last month on the 3rd, and wielding a weapon to injure B's neck.
B sustained serious injuries and received hospital treatment. It is reported that there is no threat to life. Following B's report, the police began tracking the suspect and arrested A the next morning at his residence in Pyeongtaek City. During the investigation, A reportedly stated, "I suddenly got angry and did it." It is also reported that A has a history of treatment for a mental illness.

A prosecution official stated, "Although the defendant is a juvenile, this case involves a 'random attack' on a child completely unknown to him. Considering the circumstances and process of the crime, as well as the extent of the damage, we have decided to arrest and indict him," adding, "We will respond strictly to juvenile offenders who commit violent crimes that cannot be tolerated by society."
