View original imageThe Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education operates 12 carbon-neutral focus schools and 77 pilot schools to respond to the climate crisis and practice carbon neutrality.
Carbon-neutral focus schools are selected nationwide through a public contest by related ministries, while pilot schools are selected internally by the Provincial Office of Education. Both types of schools will promote environmental education and carbon-neutral practice tasks.
This year, the carbon-neutral focus schools include 9 new schools and 3 leading model schools from the existing focus schools.
To enhance the operation of focus and pilot schools, the Provincial Office of Education will implement ▲ sharing of carbon-neutral environmental education curricula ▲ establishment of networks across 6 regions ▲ fostering a culture of carbon-neutral practice ▲ strengthening teacher capabilities ▲ and operating a council for participating schools.
Additionally, a joint program for Environment Week (June) will be operated centered on focus schools by region, and opportunities for shared growth will be created by sharing operational cases with pilot schools and ecological forest schools.
In particular, the 'Gyeonggi Environmental Education Teacher Support Group' will be formed to hold regular monthly meetings with the support group and the managers of focus and pilot schools, supporting the operation of these schools.
Lee Hyun-sook, Director of the Convergence Education Policy Division at the Provincial Office of Education, emphasized, "In the era of the climate crisis, practicing carbon neutrality is important for ecological transition education. We will support practice-centered environmental education that unfolds creative ideas to reduce carbon in classes and imagines and creates the future together."
