"One Person to Stop the Death Rally"... Ruling Party Launches Fierce Attack on Lee Jae-myung's Chief Secretary Death Incident
Joo Ho-young "Lee's associates decide to risk their lives for the fifth time"
Seong Il-jong "A chilling and terrifying horror movie, but everyday life"
On the 10th, the People Power Party launched a relentless offensive targeting Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, in connection with the discovery of the body of Jeon Mo (64), who was Lee's chief secretary during his time as governor of Gyeonggi Province.
Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the People Power Party, said to reporters after the party's floor strategy meeting, "I want to hear Lee Jae-myung's position on why related persons connected to former Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung have made the decision to end their lives five times now."
Regarding the Democratic Party's claim that the prosecution's investigation was excessive, Joo said, "For an investigation to be considered excessive, there would have to be harsh treatment or torture, but none of the people who took their lives so far have made such claims." He added, "There are various reasons why people end their lives during investigations. Sometimes it is because they feel unfairly accused, and sometimes because if they speak out, others might get hurt, so they choose to bear it themselves and end their lives."
Seong Il-jong, chairman of the Policy Committee, also said on the same day, "The only person who can stop this death rally is one person, 'that person,'" pointing out, "Around Lee Jae-myung, a horrific death rally is becoming reality, not a horror movie." He criticized, "Isn't politics supposed to save lives? Lee's close aides are dying silently. This has become an everyday occurrence, not a chilling and scary horror movie. Is this normal?"
He also criticized Lee for blaming the prosecution for the deaths of those around him. Seong said, "Even though many people around him have died, Lee Jae-myung has never taken moral or political responsibility," and scolded, "Who exactly is Lee Jae-myung, who remains silent even as tragedies continue for the political purposes of a single person, disregarding the dignity and value of human life?"
Earlier, Jeon Mo, who served as Lee's first chief secretary during his time as governor of Gyeonggi Province, was found dead the previous night. Based on the circumstances and evidence at the scene, the police are currently investigating the case as a possible suicide. Jeon served as chief secretary at Seongnam City Hall under Lee when he was mayor, as well as at Sujeong District Office. After Lee was elected governor, Jeon served as chief secretary of the transition committee and then as the first chief secretary to the governor in July 2018. He later served as head of the Management Planning Headquarters at Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) and acted as president after the resignation of former GH president Lee Heon-wook from November 2021.
Former President Lee was under police investigation related to the 'GH dormitory suspicion' case next to Lee Jae-myung's residence. However, Jeon was reportedly not connected to the GH dormitory lease and has never been investigated by the police in relation to that matter.

It has not yet been confirmed whether Jeon was a subject of the prosecution's investigation. However, the police reportedly received a statement from Jeon's bereaved family that "Jeon was questioned by the prosecution last November regarding the 'Seongnam FC suspicion' case."
