China emphasizes again to South Korea that "One China" is the basis of diplomatic relations
The Chinese government showed a strong response for two consecutive days regarding Foreign Minister Park Jin's remarks opposing any change to the status quo in the Taiwan Strait by force.
On the 28th, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated about Minister Park's recent remarks on Taiwan, "The One-China principle is the foundation of China's diplomatic relations."

At the regular briefing that day, in response to questions from Korean reporters requesting further explanation on the position announced the previous day, Spokesperson Mao emphasized, "The One-China principle regarding the Taiwan issue is an internationally recognized fundamental norm in international relations and the basis for China to establish and develop diplomatic relations with all countries."
He added, "Therefore, respecting the One-China principle and China's sovereignty and territorial integrity on the Taiwan issue is very important," and "It cannot be overemphasized how crucial this point is in diplomatic relations with any country."
At the briefing the previous day, when asked by Chinese reporters about the position on Foreign Minister Park's media interview remarks related to the Taiwan issue, Mao said, "The Taiwan issue is China's internal affair and does not tolerate interference from others," and "If South Korea seeks to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, it should respect China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, strictly observe the One-China principle, and handle the Taiwan issue cautiously."

Minister Park said in an interview with CNN reported on the 22nd, "(Regarding the Taiwan issue) South Korea opposes any unilateral change to the status quo by force," and "If anything happens in the Taiwan Strait, we must maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. This is because it directly affects our country."
