韓 KCOC to Provide 30 Billion Won in Aid to Earthquake-Affected Turkey and Others
KCOC Joint Action Announcement by Korean Civil Organizations for Turkey-Syria Disaster Response
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The Korea NGO Council for Overseas Development Cooperation (KCOC) has decided to provide a total of 30 billion KRW in aid to T?rkiye and Syria, which suffered damage from the earthquake.
On the 17th, KCOC announced the "Korea NGO Joint Action for T?rkiye-Syria Disaster Response," which includes this plan. KCOC is an alliance of over 140 domestic international relief, development, and humanitarian support non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
According to KCOC, member organizations began rapid emergency relief immediately after the disaster occurred. Currently, about 900 personnel from around 30 organizations are active on the ground, and financial support amounting to 13 billion KRW is underway. KCOC plans to expand the total support to 30 billion KRW in the future.
Additionally, KCOC decided to focus on temporary housing and essential goods support, food and drinking water and livelihood assistance, as well as health, hygiene, and medical support when the initial emergency relief phase centered on search and rescue passes and the recovery and reconstruction phase for returning to daily life begins.

KCOC stated, "Korean NGOs promise to act responsibly with a sense of mission to convey the goodwill of the citizens of the Republic of Korea, neighbors of the affected residents."
