Lee Jae-myung to Undergo Second Prosecutor Investigation... "Appearing on the 28th"
"No fault of mine
but since I'm asked to come again, I will go"
"I have to work on weekdays... Saturday instead of the 27th"
[Asia Economy Reporters Oh Ju-yeon and Park Jun-i] Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, responded to the prosecution's summons on the 27th regarding the 'Wirye and Daejang-dong development allegations' by saying, "I have done nothing wrong, but since they are calling me again, I will go," expressing his intention to confidently appear for the second summons.
On the 18th, after visiting Mangwon Market in Mapo-gu, Seoul, Lee told reporters, "Some political prosecutors are abusing prosecutorial power for personal gain by fabricating crimes that do not exist and covering up real crimes. The public is watching, and history will judge," he said.
By accepting the prosecution's summons this time, Lee will stand at the photo line for the second time this year. It has been three weeks since he was investigated by the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office on the 10th over the 'Seongnam FC sponsorship allegations.'
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Eom Hee-jun) and Division 3 (Chief Prosecutor Kang Baek-shin), which are investigating the Wirye and Daejang-dong development corruption allegations, notified Lee's side on the 16th to appear for questioning as a suspect on charges of breach of trust and violation of the Anti-Corruption Act. Although the summons date was set for the 27th, Lee stated that he would appear on the weekend, the 28th, saying, "I have to work during the weekdays."
Lee raised his voice, saying, "The prosecution may not care if unsolved cases pile up because they are busy with political retaliation, fabricating cases, and removing political opponents, but I have to manage state affairs and party duties."
He continued, "In this situation where many people are suffering and countless issues exist, I must work during the weekdays," emphasizing, "I will appear not on the 27th but on Saturday, the 28th."
Addressing lawmakers within his party, he said, "Our members have much affection and interest, but I hope you focus on party affairs and national governance during that time," and added, "I will bring a lawyer with me and face them confidently."
