[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The weather on Thursday the 12th will feel like early spring.
On the 11th, daytime temperatures exceeded 10 degrees Celsius in most areas, making it mild. In Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, the highest temperature at 4 p.m. was 16 degrees Celsius, marking the third highest January temperature ever recorded in Uljin-gun.
The next day, a south wind will blow from the edge of a high-pressure system located south of Japan, causing temperatures to rise compared to that day.
The minimum temperature on the morning of the next day is expected to range between -5 and 5 degrees Celsius, and the maximum daytime temperature is forecasted to be between 8 and 17 degrees Celsius. If daytime temperatures rise as expected, some areas may break the record for the highest January temperature ever.
The expected minimum and maximum temperatures in major cities are Seoul 0°C and 12°C, Incheon 1°C and 11°C, Daejeon -3°C and 15°C, Gwangju 2°C and 16°C, Daegu -2°C and 15°C, Ulsan 0°C and 17°C, and Busan 5°C and 16°C.
Clouds will increase occasionally the next day, becoming mostly cloudy by the afternoon, with rain starting from Jeonnam and Jeju. The rain will spread nationwide except for Gangwon Yeongdong at night and continue until late afternoon on the 13th. Some parts of the central region, inland Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju may experience rain until the night of the 13th.
Rain will fall due to a low-pressure system approaching from the west, and the moisture-laden south wind will add to the amount, resulting in a considerable volume of rain for winter.
The expected rainfall from the next day until the 13th is 30-80 mm in Jeju (excluding the northern coast), eastern and southern coasts of Jeonnam, southern coast of Gyeongnam, and near Jirisan; 20-60 mm in Jeonnam (excluding eastern and southern coasts and near Jirisan), Gyeongnam (excluding southern coast and near Jirisan), and the northern coast of Jeju; and 5-40 mm in the central region, Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk, the five western islands, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo.
Some areas in southern Jeju may receive over 100 mm of rain. Mountainous areas in Jeju could see rainfall exceeding 200 mm. Especially in Jeju, strong winds with gusts exceeding 70 km/h (90 km/h in mountainous areas) are expected from the night of the next day until the 13th. On the 13th, winds will also be strong along the western coast of Jeolla and the southern coast.
