Chungnam Limits ‘Happiness Care Allowance’ to 1-2 Year Olds Starting This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province will provide the ‘Happiness Nurturing Allowance’ only to children aged 1 to 2 years starting this year.
According to the province on the 9th, the ‘Happiness Nurturing Allowance’ was introduced in 2018 (then called Chungnam-type Baby Allowance) to pay 100,000 KRW monthly regardless of income or property level when the child and guardian reside in Chungnam.
Until last year, the payment target was children aged 0 to 2 years, meaning those under 3 years old (up to 35 months) could receive the Happiness Nurturing Allowance.
However, starting this year, the allowance will be adjusted to only children aged 1 to 2 years (12 months to 35 months), excluding children aged 0 (1 month to 11 months) from the payment target.
This reflects the increased financial burden as the introduction of the parental allowance provides 700,000 KRW monthly to childcare families with 0-year-olds and 350,000 KRW monthly to those with 1-year-olds.
The province explained that the Ministry of Health and Welfare had previously expressed the opinion that projects similar or overlapping with the parental allowance need to be adjusted.
