Usangbeom "Most of the Party is Pro-Yoon Group... Low Possibility of Nomination Purge"
MBC Radio 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' Appearance... "A Bluff by the Pro-Yoo Seung-min Faction"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Regarding former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min's prediction that a 'nomination massacre' will occur in the 2024 general election if a pro-Yoon (친윤) figure becomes the party leader, Yoo Sang-beom, a member of the People Power Party, forecasted that "the possibility is low."
On the 27th, Yoo appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "If a nomination massacre occurs, it would apply when there are more non-Yoon (비윤) candidates than pro-Yoon group members among our party's contenders."
The so-called 'nomination massacre' refers to the large-scale exclusion of incumbent lawmakers from the nomination list ahead of an election, targeting a specific faction. It is said to have originated in February 2000, during the nomination process for the 16th general election, when then-Hanara Party Chairman Lee Hoi-chang excluded 43 incumbents, including non-mainstream senior lawmakers, from nominations.

He stated, "The most basic form of a nomination massacre is the exclusion of most non-Yoon people among incumbent lawmakers, but in this situation where most are from the pro-Yoon group, the likelihood of a nomination massacre occurring is relatively low," adding, "Isn't this a kind of bluff to preemptively block any disadvantages in nominations against the pro-Yoo Seung-min faction?"
There is also a forecast that if President Yoon sends cabinet and presidential office personnel to the party to form a 'personal guard group,' the 'pro-Yoon' members might instead be removed.

Regarding this, Yoo said, "In the past, those who had been politically active for a long time entered the presidential office, so that group was large, but President Yoon does not actually have many such groups," and predicted, "The nomination massacre that former lawmaker Yoo mentioned is very unlikely to happen."
