Inmigong Creative Studio 3rd Cohort Performance Exhibition 'Join the Team and Receive a Card'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Insa Art Space (Inmigong), operated by the Arko Art Center of the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, announced on the 20th that it will hold the performance exhibition of the 2nd support team of the 3rd Inmigong Creative Studio, Cupcake Watch Wawa, titled "Join the Team and Receive a Card" until the 31st.
The Inmigong Creative Studio, launched in 2020, is a program that provides monthly creative grants, project result reporting, mentoring, and networking programs to artists and experts from various fields. There are no restrictions on nationality, age, or career, and anyone can apply. This year, two teams were selected and supported for creation and research over two four-month periods (June to September, September to December).
"Join the Team and Receive a Card" is a title borrowed from the instruction format of games. It raises questions about how the body can sense itself in the digital age for audiences who produce and consume bodily data mediated by technology, and imagines new possibilities related to this.
The exhibition shares awareness of gestures expressed through digital technology and related issues through various formats such as video, performance, and archives. The main video work, Manifold, tells the story of a narrator from the distant future who excavates game files created in the 2010s and 2020s. The video follows the narrator’s perspective and shows the generation process of bodies and movements reproduced in stereotyped forms within the game.
Cupcake Watch Wawa is a team composed of artist Jo Joohyun and choreographer Yoo Jiyoung. The team attempts an epistemological experiment on the body performed in a digital-based environment by intersecting the different perspectives of visual arts and performing arts.
