Jang Seongcheol "The party name is People Power, but they want to elect the leadership excluding the people"
CBS Radio Interview... On 100% Party Member Election of Party Leader, "Change It with the Power of Party Members"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Jang Seongcheol, director of the Public Opinion Center, criticized the People Power Party, which decided to elect the next party leader through "100% party member voting" ahead of the party convention, saying, "They should change the party name to 'Dangwon-ui Him' (Power of Party Members)."
On the 20th, Jang appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and expressed doubt, saying, "The party name is People Power Party, but are they saying they will elect the leadership at the convention only among party members, excluding the people?"
He mentioned reports that President Yoon Seok-yeol privately said, "Wouldn't 100% party member voting be better?" and speculated, "The change in the People Power Party's party leader election rules reflects the will and intention of the presidential office. Therefore, it can only be seen as having happened in a flash."

To become a responsible party member, three months must pass after joining the party, so if the convention is held on March 12, it should be considered difficult to exercise voting rights."
Jang predicted, "A cabinet reshuffle is expected before the Lunar New Year," and anticipated that Kwon Young-se, Minister of Unification, and Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, could run as party leader candidates. He also analyzed that although the possibility is slim, Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, still belongs to the pool of party leader candidates.
Finally, Jang said, "The People Power Party often talks about becoming one with the presidential office and uniting for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration in this convention, but that is only possible in a parliamentary system," and questioned, "Even as the ruling party, aren't the members of the National Assembly elected by the people's choice?"

He added, "They should play the role of checking and monitoring the executive branch, but they show neglect of such a role," and said, "If they think they just need to get nominated, be re-elected, and serve a third term, they are not qualified to be representatives of the people."
