Impact Ground is one of the core projects of the Brian Impact Foundation. It aims to serve as fertile ground for nonprofit social innovation organizations that propose and implement creative ideas to fundamentally solve social problems, supporting them to firmly establish themselves within the social ecosystem.
In particular, the second cohort of Impact Ground has newly adjusted its support direction based on lessons learned from the first cohort’s activities last year.
First, by expanding the support areas, it seeks to discover and support a wider variety of social innovation organizations. Impact Ground 2 selected organizations active in diverse fields such as human rights, environment, education, and local communities, engaging in various activities including legal support, rehabilitation medical care, special education, and job creation. The histories of the selected organizations range broadly from 1991 to 2018. This reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting the experiments and challenges of innovative organizations addressing deeply rooted social issues in each area.
Furthermore, unlike the first cohort which provided equal amounts to each organization, from this year, the support amounts have been individualized considering the circumstances of each social innovation organization. The total support amount has also increased from 10 billion KRW last year to 15 billion KRW this year, and the number of supported organizations has significantly increased compared to last year. The total number of Impact Ground supported organizations has grown to 21, combining the currently active first cohort and the newly selected second cohort.
To discover more social innovation organizations, an external recommendation system was introduced. The selection process involved recommendation letters, face-to-face meetings, document and on-site inspections, and comprehensively evaluated problem-solving models, past achievements, future vision and potential, and organizational reliability to finalize the supported organizations.
The organization receiving the largest amount of support this year is Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital, which will receive a total of 5 billion KRW from Brian Impact. Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital plans to solve the issues of waiting and disconnection for children with disabilities through the development of a ‘rehabilitation medical platform’ and move towards a ‘rehabilitation medical system connecting hospital-home-school-community.’ Based on the support from the Brian Impact Foundation, Seoul Rehabilitation Hospital plans to provide ‘seamless rehabilitation medical care’ throughout the life cycle of children with disabilities.
