Bus Fares in Urban and Rural Areas of Gangwon-do to Increase Starting January Next Year
Adult fare increased to 1,700 won, middle and high school students to 1,360 won, elementary students to 850 won
100 won discount for adults and middle/high school students using transportation cards
Excluding some cities/counties like Jeongseon-gun... Fare hike decided after 4 years
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] From January 1st next year, bus fares for city buses and rural buses will increase in Gangwon-do, except for some areas.
According to Gangwon-do on the 14th, the fare rates for city and rural buses will increase, excluding some cities and counties such as Jeongseon-gun. The general bus fare for adults will rise from 1,400 won to 1,700 won (21.43%↑), and the seat bus fare will increase from 2,000 won to 2,400 won (20%↑).
Middle and high school students will see fares rise to 1,360 won, which is 80% of the adult fare, and elementary school students to 850 won, which is 50%. Adults and middle/high school students will receive a 100 won discount when using transportation cards, while elementary school students are excluded from this discount.
This fare increase is the first in four years since the last adjustment on October 20, 2018, and follows the verification results of the fare increase proposal (general bus 1,900 won, seat bus 3,200 won) requested by the Gangwon-do Bus Transportation Business Association last August.
Accordingly, transportation departments in each city and county will begin updating the bus fare systems and posting notices about the fare increase at bus terminals and stops.
Meanwhile, the province plans to expand and implement various programs to reduce transportation costs for residents, such as free rides for transportation-vulnerable groups and support for the Altteul Transportation Card, which are currently in effect in some areas.
