This combines LG Electronics' automotive electronics technology with Corning's expertise in automotive glass manufacturing. They plan to seek supply of curved displays to premium European automobile manufacturers in the future. Corning is a U.S. display glass substrate company that is expected to produce 'Gorilla Glass Victus 2,' which will be installed in Samsung Electronics' flagship phone Galaxy S23, scheduled for release in mid-February next year.
According to Corning, recently premium European automobile manufacturers have been equipping vehicles with curved displays that combine instrument clusters (IPC) and center stack displays (CDS). It is said that mixing digital and analog elements on the dashboard in front of the driver is a trend.
LG Electronics has focused on expanding the experience of in-vehicle infotainment (IVN) systems. They have paid attention to enhancing and refining in-vehicle connectivity. To this end, they decided to apply Corning's 'ColdForm' technology. ColdForm emits 25% less carbon compared to the existing thermal forming curved glass production process. The reduction in CO2 emissions reaches 14.5 million kg per million square feet of glass. It is a technology that forms glass at room temperature. A Corning official said, "Forming will take place at the final stage of the module assembly process with LG Electronics and its partners," adding, "After applying ColdForm, carbon emissions will be minimized and display production costs will also be reduced."
