Prosecutors Indict and Detain Democratic Party National Disability Committee Chair for Violating Lawyer Act
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The Criminal Division 5 of the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Byung-joo) announced on the 2nd that it has arrested and indicted Yoon Hee-sik, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea's National Disability Committee, on charges of receiving tens of millions of won under the pretext of helping to purchase a building.
According to the prosecution, Chairman Yoon is accused of violating the Attorney-at-Law Act by receiving a total of 77 million won in three installments from a construction businessman acquaintance from 2020 to last year, claiming he would help the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) purchase the acquaintance's building. The prosecution judged that Professor A, who also received money, was an accomplice and sent both to trial together.

A prosecution official stated, "This is a case where a party official abused his position for personal gain," adding, "We will continue to strictly respond according to law and principles to corruption crimes that abuse public positions for private interests."
