KPCA Holds Symposium Exploring Advances in Semiconductor Backend Processes
Over 50 Industry-Academia-Government Officials Attend to Discuss Semiconductor Development Plans
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] The Korea PCB & Semiconductor Packaging Industry Association (KPCA) held the "Symposium on Strengthening National Competitiveness in Semiconductor Post-Processing" on the 24th at LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul, together with the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers (IEIE) and the Korean Microelectronics and Packaging Society (KMEPS).
This symposium was the first event jointly hosted by KPCA, IEIE, and KMEPS. It was organized to share trends in the semiconductor chip, packaging, and substrate industries and to discuss future development plans. More than 50 participants attended, including companies related to the field, academia, research institutes, the National Assembly, and government officials from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The event featured presentations on the global semiconductor supply chain restructuring, Korea's semiconductor industry response strategies, and technology trends in the semiconductor and interposer industries. There were also presentations on semiconductor packaging trends and cooperation measures, as well as directions for next-generation semiconductor substrate technology development. Yang Hyangja, Chairperson of the People Power Party's Special Committee on Strengthening Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness, gave a lecture on the development direction of the semiconductor industry.
During the symposium, discussions continued on technology and talent development support measures for the semiconductor post-processing industry. Opinions were raised that government-led industrial support has been mainly focused on semiconductor chips. It was also suggested that cooperation and synergy in chip, packaging, and substrate technology fields are necessary to enhance industrial competitiveness.
