[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Lee Young) announced on the 24th that it held the '2022 Public Procurement Promotion Conference,' an award ceremony recognizing excellence in public procurement, at COEX in Seoul.

Now in its 22nd year, the Public Procurement Promotion Conference is an event to reward and encourage outstanding public institutions and their employees who have worked to increase public procurement of small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) products, as well as exemplary SME businesspeople. The awards cover a total of 50 prizes across three categories: 5 outstanding public institutions, 27 public institution contributors, and 18 exemplary SME businesspeople.

In the outstanding public institutions category, the Presidential Citation was awarded to the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity and the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, while the Prime Minister's Citation went to the Korea Food Safety Management Certification Institute, Dalseong District Office, and Suseong District Office. These five institutions were selected for their excellent procurement performance of SME products and technology development products among public institutions that met the legally mandated purchase ratio, as well as their outstanding efforts to improve systems to increase procurement. Notably, the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity, which received the Presidential Citation, exceeded the target ratios with an SME product purchase rate of 98.4% and a technology development product purchase rate of 45.1%.

Along with institutional awards, individual citations were given to 27 public institution executives and employees who worked diligently on-site to increase procurement of SME products. Ministerial citations from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Public Procurement Service Commissioner’s citations were awarded to 18 SME representatives who strived to supply excellent products to public institutions. Cho Joo-hyun, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, stated, "We hope public institutions will take the lead in laying the groundwork for SME products to enter the global market."
