Chungnam to Distribute 341.7 Billion KRW in 'Basic Public Interest Direct Payments' to Over 150,000 People
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province has finalized the recipients and scale of the Basic Public Interest Direct Payment for this year and will begin sequential disbursement.
The province announced that starting from the 24th, it will sequentially pay 341.7 billion KRW in Basic Public Interest Direct Payments to approximately 151,800 farmers and agricultural corporations within the province.
The Public Interest Direct Payment system is a program that provides direct payments to farmers who meet certain qualifications and comply with required conditions to promote the public functions of agriculture and rural areas and stabilize farmers' incomes. This is the third year of its implementation.
The Public Interest Direct Payment is divided into Small-scale Farmer Direct Payment and Area-based Direct Payment. First, the Small-scale Farmer Direct Payment is paid per farm unit, with the province planning to pay 68.6 billion KRW to about 56,400 farms this year. The Area-based Direct Payment will be paid to approximately 95,400 recipients, totaling 273.1 billion KRW.
The province will sequentially disburse the payments after verifying farmer eligibility and account details by city and county. Earlier, the province guided applicants not to apply for ineligible farmland during the application and reception stages to prevent fraudulent claims.
After application and reception, purchase history of agricultural materials, residence information, and nursing grade assessment data were linked to select targets for inspection.
For the selected inspection targets, the province, in cooperation with the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, intensively verified compliance with 17 required conditions and actual cultivation to minimize fraudulent claims.
