COVID-19 New Cases 70,324, Up 3,755 from Last Week...477 Critical Cases (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Byeon Seon-jin] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 23rd at midnight that 70,324 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 26,725,053.
The number of new cases decreased by 2,549 from the previous day (72,873), but remained in the 70,000 range for the second consecutive day. Compared to a week ago on the 16th (66,569), it increased by 3,755, and compared to two weeks ago on the 9th (62,466), it rose by 7,858. This is the highest number of Wednesday cases in two and a half months since September 14 (93,949).

The number of critically ill patients was 477, marking the fifth consecutive day in the 400s. There is an analysis that the high number of critically ill patients recently is due to many hidden infections not counted in the confirmed case statistics. The intensive care unit bed occupancy rate is 32.7%, with 1,064 available beds. The number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 53, bringing the total to 30,164. As of midnight, the additional winter vaccination rate is 14.8%.
