Former KAIST President Shin Sung-chul Appointed as Science and Technology Cooperation Ambassador
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] On the 21st, the government appointed former KAIST President Shin Sung-chul, former CNN Seoul Bureau Chief Son Ji-ae, and Professor Choi Jae-wook of Korea University College of Medicine's Department of Preventive Medicine as Special Envoys to support the government's diplomatic activities.
The Special Envoy system grants the title of ambassador to private individuals who possess both expertise and diplomatic capabilities to support the government's diplomatic efforts, with a term of one year.
Shin Sung-chul, appointed as the Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation, is a leading scholar representing the domestic physics community and will propose specialized strategies to address global science and technology diplomacy issues that require convergent and interdisciplinary responses.
Former Bureau Chief Son Ji-ae was appointed as the Ambassador for Cultural Cooperation and will provide policy advice based on her experience in public diplomacy and international sensibility, as well as conduct outreach activities at major diplomatic events involving the government.
