[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] The government has once again emphasized its concerns about the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) in the United States.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 21st that Ahn Deok-geun, the ministry’s Director-General for Trade Negotiations, held a bilateral meeting with Katherine Tai, the United States Trade Representative (USTR), on the 18th during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Bangkok, Thailand. Director-General Ahn stressed to Representative Tai that the government and industry have significant concerns about the IRA and that concrete measures to alleviate South Korea’s concerns should be presented as soon as possible.
In addition to Representative Tai, Director-General Ahn also held talks with trade ministers and vice ministers from key countries such as the Philippines and Vietnam. During the meeting with the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Ahn mentioned the need for Vietnam to actively implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). In the meeting with the Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry, they reached a consensus on the necessity of cooperation in nuclear power development between the two countries.

Director-General Ahn also met with the Chilean Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Trade to discuss the need to improve the Korea-Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Furthermore, Ahn requested support for the 2030 Busan World Expo from the three countries: the Philippines, Vietnam, and Chile.
