Tax Office Employee Who Wielded a Weapon at Wife Late at Night Sent to Prosecution Under Custody
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] A level 7 tax office official in Seoul, accused of wielding a weapon against his wife late at night, has been handed over to the prosecution while in custody.
On the 8th, the Nowon Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent Mr. A, a tax official in his 40s, to prosecution under custody on charges including injury, special injury, and violation of the Child Welfare Act on the 31st of last month.
Mr. A is accused of injuring his wife, Mrs. B, by wielding a weapon at their home around 10 p.m. on the 28th of last month. Mrs. B is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. Their child, who witnessed the crime, immediately reported it to the police, who arrested Mr. A at the scene. The police applied charges of emotional abuse for committing the crime in front of their minor child.
It is known that Mr. A committed the crime because Mrs. B had previously filed a complaint against him. Mr. A had also previously assaulted Mrs. B with his fists. Mrs. B had filed a police complaint against Mr. A for injury charges.

Before Mr. A’s detention, the police applied for temporary measures under the Act on the Punishment of Domestic Violence, including a ban on approaching within 100 meters. The child was provided psychological counseling support at the district office’s Child Welfare Department counseling center. Meanwhile, the police notified the head of Mr. A’s affiliated institution of the investigation in accordance with Article 46 of the Police Crime Investigation Regulations (Notification of Investigation Commencement, etc., for Public Officials).
