"No Fire or Hacking Risk"... Blockchain Labs Launches 'BlockChat', World's First Messenger Without Central Server
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Blockchain Labs, which developed and operates the COVID-19 vaccine pass 'Koov', is introducing the world's first messenger service without a central server.
On the 7th, Blockchain Labs announced the launch of BlockChat, a next-generation messenger service that creates a unique blockchain ID on personal devices to directly connect conversation participants, based on patented blockchain technology. BlockChat is currently available on the Apple App Store and is expected to be available on the Google Play Store in November.
Unlike existing messenger services that use a central server where personal information and conversation contents are stored, BlockChat utilizes decentralized blockchain technology leading the Web 3.0 era. It can be used without separate membership registration or login, so no personal information is required.
Also, message contents are stored only on personal devices, not on a central server. Without intermediaries, conversations can be as natural as everyday interactions, and users can reclaim ownership of personal information that was previously used without their awareness, Blockchain Labs explained.
Conversations stored only on personal devices rather than a central server have several advantages. Only the parties involved can view the conversation contents, and it is safe from personal information and conversation leaks due to central server hacking, communication failures caused by accidents such as fires, and data loss.
Lim Byung-wan, co-CEO of Blockchain Labs, is holding a press conference for the launch of 'BlockChat' on the 7th at Lotte Hotel, Sogong-dong, Seoul.

Users are not exposed to unwanted advertisements from messenger companies that collect personal information through membership registration. Also, indiscriminate linking or friend recommendations due to contact or ID exposure do not occur.
Users start conversations by sharing a unique connection code with verified counterparts. Regarding this, Co-CEO Byungwan Lim said, "The blockchain ID and connection code are not exposed to anyone other than the person the user wants to talk to," adding, "This can prevent anonymous cybercrimes using exposed IDs, such as the 'Nth Room incident.'"
Another feature of BlockChat is that users can edit not only the messages they sent but also the messages they received on their respective devices. Conversations on BlockChat do not hold evidentiary value like everyday conversations, making malicious use through screenshots or recordings impossible. Additionally, features such as changing message sorting methods and color conversion enhance personal information protection in public places. Various functions such as file transfer, group chat, and voice calls supporting voice filtering technology will be supported in the future.
CEO Lim said, "As awareness of personal information is gradually increasing, we hope users who feel fatigued by indiscriminate contact linking, unwanted advertisement exposure, and misuse of messenger conversations will regain sovereignty over their personal information through BlockChat."
