Socialist Countries Rush to Congratulate General Secretary Xi Jinping on Third Term Reappointment
Congratulatory Messages from Leaders of Socialist States Including North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba
Russian President Putin: The 20th Party Congress Confirmed General Secretary Si's Political Status
[Asia Economy Senior Reporter Cho Young-shin] Countries following socialist paths, including North Korea, have collectively congratulated Xi Jinping on his third term in power.
State-run Xinhua News Agency reported on the 24th that after the conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (20th CPC National Congress) and the 1st Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee (1st Plenary Session), leaders of North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba sent congratulatory letters upon the final confirmation of Chairman Xi’s re-election as Party General Secretary.
Xinhua reported that Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, expressed his pleasure upon hearing the successful convening of the 20th Party Congress and warmly congratulated Chairman Xi on his re-election.
Chairman Kim stated, "Under the leadership of Comrade Xi Jinping, the Communist Party of China and the people will unite more closely," and firmly believed that "China will achieve glorious victories on the new journey of developing socialism with Chinese characteristics and building a modern socialist country in all respects." He added, "We are willing to jointly envision and realize a better future for Korea-China relations in response to the demands of the times together with General Secretary Xi Jinping."
Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, also congratulated Chairman Xi on his re-election. In his congratulatory letter, he said, "China, with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, will become prosperous, democratic, and culturally advanced," and conveyed that Comrade Xi and the Chinese people will build a modern socialist power. He also highly appreciated Comrade Xi’s sincere interest in Vietnam-China relations.
Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, congratulated, saying, "The election of Chairman Xi through the Party Congress reflects the wisdom of the Chinese people," and firmly believed that "the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress will successfully implement the building of a modern socialist country."
Miguel Mario D?az-Canel, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, also congratulated Xi on his third term, noting that "the international community is paying attention to Chairman Xi’s reappointment." He sent a congratulatory letter saying, "Cuba and China are good friends and comrades," and "Cuba is willing to work together with Chairman Xi and strive for sustainable development of both countries," according to Xinhua.
Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, who has shown a special relationship with China since the invasion war in Ukraine, praised Chairman Xi, saying that this Party Congress demonstrated the unity of the Communist Party of China and highlighted Chairman Xi’s political stature. President Putin also expressed hope to "continue constructive dialogue and maintain a comprehensive partnership between the two countries."
