First Far-Right Prime Minister Meloni Takes Office in Italy After 100 Years...
Successor to the Fascist Party
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] The new Italian cabinet led by far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni officially took office on the 22nd (local time). This marks the most far-right government in Italy in 100 years since Benito Mussolini first came to power in 1922.
According to major foreign media, Prime Minister Meloni and her ministers took the oath of office before President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace (the presidential residence) on the same day. Although confidence votes in both the upper and lower houses are scheduled for next week, the possibility of an upset is low.

Meloni is often called the "female Mussolini." The Brothers of Italy (FdI), led by Meloni, is considered the successor to the National Fascist Party (PNF) founded by Mussolini, and secured 26% of the vote in the last general election, becoming the largest party in parliament. Meloni succeeded in forming the government together with right-wing parties such as the League and Forward Italy, which formed an electoral alliance with her.
