On the 21st, Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the PPP, held an emergency press briefing immediately after Lee's press conference and said, "A special prosecutor is introduced when investigations are not properly conducted or when the investigation cannot be trusted, but now that the administration has changed and investigations have started properly, they are insisting on a special prosecutor," adding, "This is nothing but a deliberate stalling tactic and an attempt to dilute the investigation."
Expressing his stance against accepting a special prosecutor, Floor Leader Joo said, "We know from experience that the more special prosecutors are involved, the more political strife intensifies," and emphasized, "The only way to eliminate political strife and focus on people's livelihoods is for the prosecution to conduct swift, strict, and proper investigations and report the results to the public."
He continued, "Perhaps because he foresaw such risks himself, he tried to change his constituency to become a member of the National Assembly with immunity from arrest, and then became party leader to shield the party, which only deepens the public's conviction," adding, "As Leader Lee said, let's stop the political strife, ensure proper investigations, and focus on people's livelihoods."
Regarding the political deadlock making it difficult for bills agreed upon by both parties to pass in the future, Floor Leader Joo said, "It is truly regrettable," but added, "To focus on people's livelihoods, it is desirable to entrust the investigation to the judicial system of the Republic of Korea, follow its conclusions, and concentrate on people's livelihoods." He also said, "It takes several months just to prepare for a special prosecutor, during which time all kinds of evidence destruction can occur and there may be people obstructing the investigation, so we cannot accept a special prosecutor."
