Sejong-si, Relaxation of Use Restrictions on BRT Station Area and Geumgang Riverside Commercial Zones
[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City is easing the permitted uses for commercial areas near the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) stations and the Geumgang riverside shopping districts.
On the 20th, the city announced that it has decided and officially notified a district unit plan containing these measures to address the issue of vacant commercial spaces.
The areas where commercial use restrictions are being relaxed through the district unit plan notification are the BRT station areas and the Geumgang riverside shopping districts, both of which face serious vacancy problems.
From now on, through the notification, businesses such as beauty salons, resident sports facilities, etc., will be allowed to open in the BRT station commercial areas, and beauty salons, bookstores, general office facilities, etc., will be permitted in the Geumgang riverside shopping districts.
Previously, BRT station commercial areas were restricted to academies, hospitals, and office facilities, while the Geumgang riverside shopping districts were limited to restaurants, retail stores, and performance venues. This relaxation aims to resolve the vacancy issues in these commercial areas.
The newly permitted business types can start operating from the date of notification (the 20th).

Choi Min-ho, Mayor of Sejong City, said, “We hope that the easing of permitted commercial uses will serve as a catalyst for improving the management of local small business owners,” adding, “The city will continue to implement measures to revitalize commercial areas, such as improving comprehensive notification management regulations and reducing the remaining commercial land area.”
