Koo Kwang-mo, LG Group Chairman, Makes First Visit to US Battery Plant
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, embarked on a business trip to the United States about two weeks after visiting major affiliate sites in Poland for the first time since his inauguration earlier this month.
According to business circles, on the 17th (local time), Chairman Koo visited the first plant of ‘Ultium Cells,’ a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and General Motors (GM) located in Lordstown, Ohio, where he stayed for about four hours to receive briefings. The Ohio Plant 1 was recently completed and is equipped with about half of the production lines. This plant is where LG Energy Solution has advanced the ‘smart factory’ process, and Chairman Koo is known to have focused on inspecting this aspect.
Industry analysts interpret Chairman Koo’s visit to the U.S. just two weeks after Poland as a sign that he is actively engaging in global management.
Earlier, at a workshop with executives, Chairman Koo emphasized, "The greater the changes in the business environment, the more important it is not to be dragged along by those changes but to decide and lead the future proactively and actively," adding, "Preparing for the future requires thorough consideration from the perspective of future customers above all else."
