Sookmyung Women's University Web Development Institute Expanded and Reorganized as 'ESG Metaverse Development Institute'
Sookmyung Women's University’s First Professor-Founded Startup Holds Extraordinary General Meeting to Confirm Name Change
Full-Scale Promotion of ESG, Metaverse Evaluation, and Consulting
[Asia Economy Reporter Myunghwan Lee] The web development research institute (WSI), a professor startup company at Sookmyung Women's University, will be expanded and reorganized into the ESG Metaverse Development Institute (EMSI).
The institute announced on the 21st that it held an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on the morning of the 19th attended by the head of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and others, confirming the change of name and the addition of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) and metaverse (extended virtual world) evaluation and consulting to its business objectives. At the same time, Professor Hyungnam Moon of the Graduate School of Business was appointed as the CEO.
With this reorganization, the existing Web Development Research Institute will be expanded into the ESG Metaverse Development Institute (EMSI) by adding the ESG Development Institute (ESI) and the Metaverse Development Institute (MSI). EMSI has completed the development of ESG and metaverse maturity evaluation models and will actively promote ESG and metaverse evaluation and consulting.
CEO Hyungnam Moon, who was appointed, served as the second president of the Society for Sustainable Science established in 2011 and is currently co-chairman. According to the institute, Moon is an ESG expert who has researched sustainability and ESG for over 11 years and a metaverse expert who has authored two books related to the metaverse.
Moon said, "If you properly understand the terms sustainability and ESG, you can see the future of ESG," adding, "If you accurately understand and practice the concept of ESG, ESG can develop."
The institute explained that EMSI's professionals have experience and capabilities in diagnosing and evaluating ESG ratings for small and medium-sized enterprises, researching ESG practice models, and preparing sustainability reports. They also have various ESG education programs. Moon said, "ESG and the metaverse are approaching us as both a crisis and an opportunity," adding, "If you accurately understand the concepts of ESG and the metaverse, you can know the future development direction of ESG and the metaverse."

Meanwhile, the Web Development Research Institute started as an on-campus laboratory in 2000 and was selected for the laboratory startup support project in 2010, becoming the first faculty startup company established within Sookmyung Women's University with government support. EMSI collaborates with the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration, the largest academic society in the management field in Korea, and the Korea ESG Metaverse Forum, which involves 55 companies, organizations, and 100,000 members.
