View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Juri] A man in his 40s who threatened to set fire to an office if he was not allowed to meet the public defender who represented him eight years ago was urgently arrested.
On the 20th, Jinju Police Station in Gyeongnam announced that they had applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A (42) on charges of attempted arson of a general building and violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, among others.
Mr. A is suspected of going to the office of female lawyer Ms. B in downtown Jinju at around 9:30 a.m. on the 18th, carrying a container of oil and attempting to set fire.
At the time, Mr. A placed the oil container on the office desk, took photos, and sent text messages to Ms. B saying, "I am waiting at your office," and "If you don't meet me, I will set fire."
It was reported that Mr. A sent texts and made phone calls to lawyer Ms. B 42 times from September 8 to September 18, and visited the office four times.
Ms. B checked the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showing the office on her mobile phone, saw that Mr. A had actually entered the office, and reported it to the police.
The police who arrived on the scene urgently arrested Mr. A, and the arson was not actually carried out.
