On the 19th, Jo Ok-hyun, Chair of the Education Committee of the Jeonnam Provincial Council (Democratic Party·Mokpo 2), pointed out, “The prolonged vacancy of the Vice Superintendent at the Provincial Office of Education raises concerns about a gap in overall educational administration,” and called for the prompt appointment of the Vice Superintendent.
During the Education Committee meeting for the review of the Provincial Office of Education’s settlement, Chair Jo emphasized, “The Vice Superintendent holds an important position serving as a bridge between the Ministry of Education and other central government bodies and local education offices,” adding, “With the 2023 budget formulation and administrative audits approaching, the Vice Superintendent must be appointed promptly to ensure active communication with the council and to resolve any administrative gaps.”
He further stated, “There are concerns about whether the current government’s education policy, which aims to realize a demand-centered future-oriented education system through a comprehensive reform of the Ministry of Education that meets public expectations, can be vigorously promoted amid the vacancy of the Minister of Education position.”

The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education has been without a Vice Superintendent for over a month since the previous Vice Superintendent moved to the position of spokesperson for the Ministry of Education on the 4th of last month. Currently, the Vice Superintendent positions are vacant in four metropolitan and provincial offices of education, including Jeonnam, Gyeonggi, Sejong, and Chungbuk.
