41% Decrease in Nationwide Student COVID-19 Cases Over 7 Days... Does Not Reflect Chuseok Holiday Status
Many Students Did Not Attend School During Chuseok Holiday
Low Participation Rate in Self-Diagnosis App
Only 0.9% Participated on the 9th, 1.5% on the 12th
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The number of COVID-19 student cases nationwide over the past week has decreased to 37,286, about half compared to the previous week.
According to the Ministry of Education on the 14th, the number of student cases confirmed from September 6 to 12 in kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools nationwide was 37,286. The number of confirmed cases among faculty and staff was 4,513.
The number of student cases decreased by 41% compared to the previous week, and faculty and staff cases decreased by 39%.
Although confirmed cases increased nationwide due to more face-to-face contact during the Chuseok holiday, many students did not attend school during the holiday, so this survey result does not reflect the status of confirmed cases during the holiday period.
The participation rate in the self-diagnosis app was 66.4% on the 8th, but dropped to 0.9% on the 9th, when the Chuseok holiday began, and 1.5% on the 12th. The number of students instructed to refrain from attending school was 24,765 on the 8th, 772 on the 9th, and 1,848 on the 12th.
An official from the Ministry of Education explained, "The number of confirmed cases is aggregated through the self-diagnosis app, but since students did not attend school during the Chuseok holiday, the participation rate in the app was low, resulting in fewer cases being recorded. The data not collected this week will be reflected in next week's results."
The number of confirmed cases by school level over the past week was 1,459 in kindergartens, 18,119 in elementary schools, 10,518 in middle schools, 7,022 in high schools, and 168 in special schools.
The number of student cases by region was ▲Gyeonggi 9,868 ▲Seoul 5,302 ▲Gyeongnam 2,841 ▲Incheon 2,590 ▲Daegu 2,349 ▲Gyeongbuk 2,046, among others.
The average daily number of student cases over the past four weeks was ▲August 16?22: 12,373 ▲August 23?29: 11,097 ▲August 30?September 5: 9,551 ▲September 6?12: 5,327.
