Yoon: "Do Not Spare Government Support to Prevent Typhoon Crop Damage"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] On the 5th, President Yoon Seok-yeol urged his aides to "spare no necessary support to prevent crop damage caused by Typhoon 'Hinnamnor' No. 11, which is moving northward."
At the chief secretaries' meeting presided over by the president at the Yongsan Presidential Office that day, President Yoon said, "Each economic ministry should do its utmost to stabilize people's livelihoods and prices ahead of Chuseok, and promptly provide restoration funds and disaster insurance payments to citizens and farmers who may suffer damage from the typhoon with an empathetic attitude," Kim Eun-hye, the chief spokesperson, conveyed.
In particular, President Yoon emphasized, "Please devote all efforts to protecting the lives and safety of the people, which is the reason for the nation's existence," and added, "The state must care for and stand by the people affected by unprecedented typhoons and disasters."
During the regular weekly meeting with Prime Minister Han on the same day, before discussing current issues, President Yoon checked the progress of Hinnamnor and the government's preparedness, then instructed again, "We must ensure that not a single life is lost," and "Please respond thoroughly with safety measures in dangerous areas."
He also urged, "Since the economic situation concerning prices and people's livelihoods is very difficult, please do your best to process livelihood-related bills and budgets in the regular National Assembly session based on bipartisan cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties."
In response, the aides reported, "Most of the major Chuseok seasonal products have already been shipped, and it is true that there are sufficient stockpiles, but we are striving to maintain the outlook that there will be no significant problems in supply and price management. We will carefully monitor the remaining period to keep the prices of the remaining seasonal products at last year's level."
Regarding the Democratic Party's accusation against President Yoon for violating the Public Official Election Act (false information disclosure) related to First Lady Kim Geon-hee's alleged stock manipulation of Deutsche Motors, a senior official from the Presidential Office stated, "President Yoon is solely focused today on his role as the supreme commander who must protect the lives and safety of the people. There is nothing more or less to add," expressing that he has no capacity to pay attention to anything other than typhoon preparedness.
Concerning President Yoon's emergency standby, it was explained, "If the situation requires a visit to the Crisis Response Center, he will go down in person, and it will be a long night of frequently checking the changing situation with local government heads and heads of related ministries nationwide, thoroughly reviewing preparedness and response measures."

When asked about when President Yoon, who commutes between his residence in Seocho-dong and the Presidential Office building, will move to the Hannam-dong official residence, citing that he could not return to the office building during last month's heavy rain, he replied, "Today, observation is more special and important to us than the residence," and added, "Our total focus today is on weather observation and checking preparedness to minimize damage along Hinnamnor's path."
