Ministry of Environment Conducts Special Crackdown on Environmental Pollution During Chuseok Holiday
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The Ministry of Environment announced on the 4th that it will conduct a special crackdown on illegal dumping of garbage and environmental pollution during the Chuseok holiday.
The crackdown is part of the 'Chuseok Holiday Household Waste Management Measures' and will be carried out mainly in industrial complexes from the 5th to the 12th. The illegal dumping crackdown will continue until the 16th.
The targets include major industrial complexes, about 5,600 facilities emitting environmental pollutants, and upstream areas of water sources. Anyone who discovers environmental pollution can report it by calling '128' (for mobile phones, dial the area code followed by 128). The measures also include establishing and operating a 'special household waste collection system' and conducting guidance and crackdowns on excessive packaging along with the illegal dumping crackdown.
Additionally, simple garbage collection bins will be installed at terminals and rest areas, and people will be advised to take COVID-19 protective masks home whenever possible.
