On the 3rd (local time), Kim Seyoung shot a 6-under-par 65 in the third round held at Highland Meadows Golf Club (par 71, 6,555 yards) in Sylvania, Ohio, USA. With a total score of 11-under-par 202, she improved her position from a tie for 16th place the previous day to a tie for 4th place.
Kim Seyoung recorded three birdies and one bogey in the front nine holes but reduced four strokes in the back nine, making her a contender for a come-from-behind victory in the final round. Especially on the last 18th hole (par 5), her second shot landed 0.5 meters from the hole, drawing gasps from the gallery. It was a shot that nearly recorded her first-ever albatross.
Kim Seyoung said, "I have never made an albatross before, so it was amazing. Although it was a bit disappointing, I got very close." She added, "My uncle lives near the tournament venue, so he and my teammates cheered a lot. The finish was good, so I am looking forward to tomorrow."
The leader is Lucy Li (USA), who recorded a total score of 14-under-par 199. The 20-year-old rookie, called a 'genius,' secured her LPGA Tour card for the 2023 season by winning twice on the second-tier tour this year and leading the money list. At 10 years and 8 months old, she became the youngest player to reach the round of 64 at the 2013 US Women's Amateur Public Links, and also competed as the youngest player in the 2013 US Women's Amateur Championship and the 2014 US Women's Open.
Lexi Thompson (USA) and Caroline Masson (Germany) are tied for 2nd place, one stroke behind the leader, at 13-under-par 200. Last year's champion Hataoka Nasa (Japan) and Lydia Ko (New Zealand), along with Kim Seyoung, are set to compete in the final round tied for 4th place, promising a fierce battle for the title.
