At this meeting, safety management measures of related agencies were reviewed in areas such as transportation, tourism and leisure facilities, and coastal passenger ships to prevent potential safety accidents during the Chuseok holiday in advance.
First, during the Chuseok holiday period, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will maintain a 24-hour situation management system centered on the Central Disaster and Safety Situation Room, checking weather and traffic conditions daily with related agencies and responding promptly to major accidents. To prevent this Chuseok holiday from becoming an opportunity for the resurgence of COVID-19, the ministry plans to work with other ministries and local governments to inspect quarantine status at major transportation facilities, venues, and retail stores, strengthening infectious disease control.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will establish special transportation measures and operate a task force to strengthen traffic safety and quarantine management during the Chuseok period. In preparation for the large-scale movement during Chuseok, safety inspections will be conducted in road, railway, and aviation sectors, and road congestion will be alleviated through the opening of new roads and expanded traffic information services. Additionally, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, quarantine measures will be thoroughly implemented at highway rest areas, stations, airports, and other facilities.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will inspect the management status of facilities to ensure that the public can safely use amusement parks and campgrounds during the holiday period, and conduct on-site crackdowns on unregistered campgrounds as part of safety management. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will establish and operate a special transport task force and maintain a 24-hour cooperative system with related agencies to respond swiftly in case of marine accidents.
Furthermore, the National Fire Agency will strengthen fire safety prevention activities and establish an emergency response posture to prevent fire-related accidents. They will conduct fire safety inspections by visiting fire-vulnerable facilities such as nursing hospitals and carry out intensive public fire prevention campaigns through various media including radio and social networking services (SNS).
In addition, each ministry has prepared measures such as emergency medical system operation (Ministry of Health and Welfare), infectious disease spread prevention (Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency), industrial accident prevention (Ministry of Employment and Labor), gas and electrical facility safety (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy), and forest fire prevention (Korea Forest Service), while local governments will also establish and implement safety management measures tailored to regional circumstances.
