‘2023 AFC Asian Cup’ Hosting Campaign Kicks Off... Competitors Include Qatar, Australia, and Indonesia
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Korea Football Association is stepping up efforts to host the ‘2023 Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup (hereafter Asian Cup)’. On the 31st, the Korea Football Association announced that it had submitted a bid application to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
There are three competing countries. ▲Qatar, the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup ▲Australia, the host of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup ▲Indonesia, the host of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Although Qatar has an advantage as it can use the latest stadium facilities from the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Korea’s experience hosting two Olympics and World Cups works as an advantage. The ability to attract audiences based on the Korean Wave is also evaluated positively.
The host country will be finally decided on October 17 after on-site inspections by the AFC starting in September and the AFC Executive Committee meeting.
