[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety conducted an inspection of the 2021 national safety education implementation performance for 268 institutions, including central government ministries and local governments, and announced the selection of 79 outstanding institutions by central ministries, metropolitan cities/provinces, and cities/counties/districts.
On the 13th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that six central government ministries were selected as outstanding institutions for national safety education: the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, National Police Agency, and Korea Coast Guard. The Ministry of Education conducted safety experience education using mobile safety experience facilities targeting rural schools where hands-on education was difficult due to a lack of safety experience facilities. It also promoted customized safety education and both online and on-site experiential education for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students, receiving high evaluations for reducing school safety accidents and enhancing the quality of safety education.
For metropolitan cities/provinces, five metropolitan autonomous entities?Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Gwangju, and Daejeon?were selected, and for cities/counties/districts, 68 basic local governments including Seoul Eunpyeong-gu, Incheon Ganghwa-gun, Daejeon Seo-gu, and Gyeongbuk Mungyeong-si were selected. Daejeon Metropolitan City received high praise for raising citizens' interest in safety and encouraging voluntary participation through various safety experience events and programs such as the ‘Safe Daejeon Safety Experience Festival’ utilizing an extended virtual world (metaverse) platform.
In accordance with the Basic Act on the Promotion of National Safety Education, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety formed a Central Safety Education Inspection Team consisting of 16 members, including private experts, to ensure that the inspection of national safety education implementation performance was conducted fairly and objectively for central ministries and metropolitan cities/provinces. For cities/counties/districts, the respective metropolitan cities/provinces formed Safety Education Inspection Teams to conduct inspections.
