Gwangju Seo-gu Geumho 1-dong Senior Center, Beautiful Donation Relay Gains Attention

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The beautiful donation relay of the elderly at the Geumho 1-dong Senior Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is becoming a hot topic.

The Seo-gu Geumho 1-dong Administrative Welfare Center (Dongjang Song Min-cheol) announced on the 30th that starting this month, the elderly at the Geumho Bit Yeoulchae Apartment Senior Center have decided to donate 1% of their basic pension monthly.

This donation began voluntarily on the 25th when members of the Geumho Bit Yeoulchae Apartment Senior Center located in Geumho 1-dong expressed their intention to donate.

A total of about 20 elderly people participated in this donation. Initially, 7 elderly people agreed to participate, but as 13 more joined, it naturally turned into a sharing relay.

They pledged to donate 1% (3,000 won) of the basic pension they receive from the government every month.

Most of the elderly using the senior center are basic livelihood security recipients, so despite their difficult circumstances, it is very meaningful that they thought of neighbors who are even more in need.

The donations made by the elderly will be entrusted to the Community Chest of Korea (Geumho 1-dong Security Council) and will be used to support welfare blind spots and vulnerable groups in need of help.

Chairman Lee Don said, “I feel proud to be able to donate even a small amount, and I hope it will be delivered to neighbors who are going through more difficulties than us and bloom as hope. Also, we want to set an example in the local community by cleaning the surrounding streets along with the senior center and be a small help.”
