View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] As the COVID-19 resurgence shifts to a decline, the daily number of new confirmed cases has dropped to the 100,000 range, while the number of critically ill patients has reached the highest level since the resurgence.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 26th, as of midnight, the number of new COVID-19 confirmed cases increased by 101,140, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 22,802,985.
The number of new confirmed cases on this day is 12,231 fewer than the previous day (113,371). Compared to a week ago on the 19th (138,783), it decreased by 37,643, and compared to two weeks ago on the 12th (128,667), it decreased by 27,527.
Based on Friday announcements, the number of new confirmed cases on this day is the lowest in four weeks since the 29th of last month (85,279).
The number of new confirmed cases over the past week from the 20th to this day was 129,366 → 110,909 → 59,025 → 150,219 → 139,324 → 113,371 → 101,140, averaging 114,765 per day.
The number of critically ill patients increased by 9 from the previous day (566) to 575, marking three consecutive days with over 500 cases since the 24th. This is the highest number in 122 days since April 26th (613) and the largest scale since the resurgence began in early July.
The number of deaths due to COVID-19 on the previous day was 81, which is 27 fewer than the day before (108). Among the deceased, 44 (54.3%) were aged 80 or older, 19 were in their 70s, 11 in their 60s, 5 in their 50s, 1 in their 40s, and 1 in their 20s. The cumulative death toll is 26,413, with a cumulative COVID-19 fatality rate of 0.12%.

As of 5 p.m. the previous day, the occupancy rate of critically ill patient beds was 45.3% (837 out of 1,847 beds in use), down 0.5 percentage points from the previous day (45.8%). The occupancy rate of semi-critical beds was 57.3%, down 0.8 percentage points from the previous day, while the occupancy rate of moderate-severity beds rose by 0.4 percentage points to 43.0%.
