Gangwon Province announced on the 25th, "The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has launched a drive to accelerate the GTX project following President Yoon Seok-yeol's directive."
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to complete the 'GTX Expansion Integrated Planning Study' service by June next year, focusing on reviewing the extension of existing GTX-A, B, and C lines and discovering new D, E, and F lines.
Additionally, with the full-scale operation of the 'GTX Promotion Team' led by the Director of the Railway Bureau starting from the 1st of this month, the establishment of the 5th National Railway Network Plan, originally scheduled for 2026, is expected to be advanced by two years to 2024.
In response to the Ministry's plan for early GTX construction, the province has decided to prepare and implement a response policy, including operating a dedicated team to promote the GTX Chuncheon and Wonju extension projects.
First, the Railway Policy Team will be reorganized and operated as the 'GTX Railway Policy Team' to strengthen and specialize GTX-related functions, managing the overall project including the selection process of operators for the GTX Gangwon Province extension lines currently in progress.
Next, the province will focus on ensuring that the Gangwon Province GTX extension lines are included in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan by incorporating them into the 'GTX Expansion Integrated Planning Study' service scheduled for completion in June next year.
Furthermore, the province plans to continuously propose the optimal GTX promotion plan for the Gangwon Province extension to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport by strengthening collaboration systems with related cities and counties such as Gyeonggi Province and Chuncheon City, and cooperating with relevant agencies.
Currently, Chuncheon City and Gapyeong County are jointly conducting a preliminary feasibility study for the GTX-B Chuncheon extension until April next year.
